It took my people a while to get ready to go this morning. I was ready first thing, but they kept finding things that they needed to pack up. I was worried that they were going to fill every spot and then some, but I actually had plenty of additional room. I was clean. I got my QuikrStuff rack on and loaded up with bikes and we were off! We ended up not going that far at first though. Waynesboro is within my normal driving radius. We stopped there to max out my energy at the Rivian Adventure Network. Obviously, that went flawlessly. The next leg of the journey was going to take us through West Virginia. It may be wild, wonderful, and full of verdant forests, but it’s a charging desert!
Luckily, we’d already tested the Tesla adapter and it came in handy in Marmet, WV. I always tried to park in such a way as to not block 2 charging stalls, and fortunately that was possible here. A Tesla driver came over to talk to my people. He was curious about me, and actually happy to have us using the network. I’ve had to wait for chargers at various Electrify America stations, but this Tesla driver said he’s never had an over-crowded SuperCharger.
From there, we managed to get to Columbus, OH. It was a disappointment to go from a Tesla SuperCharger to an EVgo. That was a bit of a disappointment. The first charger we stopped at, I only managed to get 5kW out of. I switched chargers and things started off so well. I was getting 170kW. But I only got up to 61% and the charger started talking gibberish. I call it a “Communication Error”. I felt bad for my people who were off at a nice meal and had to interrupt it to come tell the charger to try again. Unfortunately, this became a bit of a theme. Finally, I took my people to a nice hotel and we all got a bit of a rest.
